In 2015, Brookfield Zoo became the second zoo in the country to officially recognize and celebrate Pride. The event was founded by Colin Borck, who works in fundraising for the Zoo.

"To the best of my knowledge, the Chicago Zoological Society is the first cultural institution to have an officially sanctioned Pride event," Borck told ChicagoPride.com in 2015. "The importance of such an established and recognized organization taking that big step is groundbreaking."

This year's Pride Day at Brookfield Zoo is hosted by the Society's Arcoiris group, which is committed to organizational excellence achieved through recognizing the importance of diversity. The Society believes that everyone can be a conservation leader and contribute to helping wildlife and nature. Arcoiris also hosts the Society's Martin Luther King Day celebration and Veterans Day.

Attendees will be able to connect with wildlife and nature by enjoying the zoo's many exhibits and attractions like Hamill Family Wild Encounters, Butterflies!, Great Bear Wilderness, and its summer-long Dinos & Dragons exhibit. Throughout the day guests can have up-close experiences with some of Brookfield Zoo's animal ambassadors at Zoo Chats.

General admission to Brookfield Zoo is $19.85 for adults and $14.50 for children 3-11 and seniors 65 and over. Children 2 and under are free. Parking is $12.  The zoo is open 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
