The Difference of Community!

Bravo Cocktail:
Last night many in the community came out to Cocktail in support of the victims of the Scarlet building fire

The Fundraiser hosted by Cocktail owner Geno Zack (See Picture Above) raised $2000 in needed funds for those that have been displaced.

I have never been more proud of our community than I was last night. Scarlet owners, Rob & Paul came to show their support as well. Scarlet’s General Manager and building tenant, Dusty Hoffman greeted people with hugs and thanks. Clearly, this is one grateful person!

In addition to cash contributions, many donated clothes, and toiletries! (See Picture) The back of Cocktail looked like a department store!

More to Come:
I am delighted to report that there are two other events planed to raise funds for the victims of the Scarlet building fire. March 6 at Cell Block; March 10 at The Wild Pug and March 23 at Roscoe’s. Stay tuned for how you can give. If you can’t attend any of these, but would like to donate/help, please email me!

Get Out & Vote:
For those of you in the 5th Congressional District; please take a moment to go to the polls today and vote your choice in the primary election.

12 Democrats, 6 Republicans and 5 Green Party candidates are running to fill Rahm Emanuel's congressional seat that he left to become White House chief of staff. Now more than ever, we need to vote our choices!

A proud citizen!

A New Hope!

Help for the Victims:
The victims of the Scarlet building fire will be receiving help from the community tonight as Cocktail will hold a Fundraiser from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with half the sales going to the victims of that wretched blaze.

All are being encouraged to donate clothes, toiletries, and dollars to this very worthy cause! If you can’t attend, but would like to donate/help, please email me!

I know that times are tough for everyone, but perhaps we can all give up a latte or two for these folks.

See you tonight!

A Sad Day in the Community!

Scarlet:
At 7:15 a.m. on this damn cold morning, the building that houses Scarlet was a blaze of fire. This was well heard all over Boystown as a fleet of fire trucks, aid units, and police cars made camp in the heart of Halsted’s 3300 block.

With some flames still active at 8:30 a.m.; I was able to see quite a bit of smoke, and a lot of water damage to the Halsted night spot. (See Photo Above)

Scarlet is on the first floor and there are residences on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Additionally, Chicago’s Equality Illinois offices are just next door. Reports from the Fire Media Affairs say there were no injuries as of 8:15 a.m.

This is a SAD day in the Boystown community! Not only is a loved structure destroyed, but a number of people are displaced and the livelihood of those people in jeopardy. Rest assured we in the LGBT community will take action to support them!

Sadly,
Bill Pritchard

11:00 a.m. UPDATE

Eyewitness and freelance writter, Barry Freiman obtained independent verification that according to two firefighters on the scene the fire was accidental and confined mainly to the two upper floors with Scarlet destroyed mainly by the water damage in extinguishing the fire. (See Photos)

12:01 p.m. UPDATE

Scarlet co-owner, Paul D. Cannella, thanked everyone for their messages and support via his facebook page. “Everyone got out of the building and is safe, so the rest can all be replaced.”, he said.

1:25 p.m. UPDATE

With an outpouring of support from friends around the world, Scarlet co-owner, Paul D. Cannella said, "The best way to help me is by helping the tenants upstairs and employees." He went on to say on his Facebook page, "They lost everything."
