Champagne Turned Me Gay

This evening ChicagoPride.com is sponsoring one of my favorite events of the year; the 2012 Champagne Wrapture: Clicquot In the Sky hosted by Chicago House. Co-Chairs David Kaufman, Tom Segal, Matthew Harvat, Dennis Remer, Scott Silverman, and Christopher Hubbard have planned an amazing event; this year a top the world famous Willis Tower.

As always this Chicago House event has been masterfully organized with the help of Jeremy Hilborn and CEO Rev. Stan Sloan

Many of my best memories are surrounded by Veuve Clicquot! I still owe Stuart Turner, John Warrington, and Big Al himself, Christopher Selby-Rickards of Heaven Nightclub for all the Veuve and love they showed Isaiah and me all those years ago. Equally Veuve Clicquot’s generosity in the LGBT community is truly appreciated! They always go above and beyond at this event.

Joining me will be ChicagoPride.com’s new fashion writer Stephen Young, of StephenStyle.com. GoPride’s own Anthony Meade will also be on site snapping all the lovelies and bubblies. You can see the photos from last years event here.

Sadly, the event is all sold out, but rest assured the gang from Chicago House will be hosting another fabulous event for their very worthy cause!

Cheers!

Hottie, Besti, Busy, Zesty

Hottie: Did you see the Republican debate on Monday night? Yes, Brian Williams is one handsome man, but the BEAUTIFUL guy behind him stole the show! He made all the crap they were saying about each other and the foible-filled policies more tolerable.

Besti: I was a proud best friend Tuesday morning, when Isaiah was on Windy City Live He really did a great job and his hard work paid off. The models looked splendid too.

Busy: One of my favorite things to do is out-best the Chicago Transit Authority. For $23 you can get a 7-day-pass. Well, I used this last week’s pass twenty-three times; making it only a $1 a ride. Yes, yes, I obsess over such fun opportunities to save a dime, but I’ve been a touch busy too. Needless to say, I did feel a bit of victory this morning when I got one last ride in before my pass expired.

Zesty: I’m always looking for chances to have fun and give back to the community at the same time. Well, I’m happy to report that Diva Amy Armstrong will be performing and hosting Brunch this Saturday, January 28th at Angelina’s, from 11-3. Funds raised will go to the amazing work of Chicago Lost and Found

Smile!

A Day On, NOT A Day Off

Martin Luther King:
Monday, January 16th marks the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observance; a time to remember, reflect and respond to the call of that make a difference pioneer Martin Luther King Jr.!

King's wife, the late Coretta Scott King challenged us saying, "On this holiday, we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence that empowered his revolutionary spirit." The King Center continues that challenge by admonishing us to look at Monday as a "Day On. . . Not A Day Off"

I can't think of a better way to look at it! Sure some of us may not have to go in to work, but perhaps you can take a few moments and study the life of Dr. King or volunteer your time at a community event or center. Perhaps you can participate in Gay For Good Volunteer Day.

Truthfully, the parallels between the fight that Martin Luther King Jr. fought and those of the LGBT community are very much the same; equal rights, civil treatment, and safety, to name a few.

Step out of your agendas, attitudes, and actions for a moment, and look to serve others. The smallest observation of Dr. King’s lifestyle shows that he was in service for others. I think that’s a good reminder to us all.

A day ON!

Not only is the show packed with great energy, but the songs, costumes, and story are sure to keep you on your toes. I promise you’ll not be disappointed. And, with cute Nick on stage, you’re sure to get a thrill!

Happy Holidays!

Birfday:
I’m off to Seattle to celebrate my 42nd birthday with my Sainted Parents and Friends. I was already blessed to enjoy Christmas and my birthday over wine and dinner with my Besti, Isaiah. You know you’re the best of friends when you give each other the same gift for Christmas, as we did for one another; finding out at the moment of giving. I truly adore him!

I will be joining my Sainted Parents on the sojourn to warm southern California for the holiday. Joining us will be my brothers, and my bosom friend, David Cruse Beal. They are great company to be around. Wonderfully charming is the home my Brother David and his partner (Yep, there are two of us in the Fam.) Clifford, have to host us in. A beautiful desert Shangri-La.

I hoping to enjoy a repast at Norma’s at the Parker Le Maridian. Set amidst palm trees and landscaped gardens this lovely spot was pioneered by Hollywood stars from the 30’s to the 70’s (See Photo Above). This Jonathan Adler-designed hotel was made famous in 1999 when actor Robert Downey, Jr. had his last drug bender. I have to say, it is such a charming venue!

In Chicago for the holidays? Be sure to check out all the fun events going on over this holiday week. There are a lot of places open on Christmas Eve AND Christmas. Go to CalendarQ for up to the minute info.

SHOUT OUTS:The AMAZING team I get to partner with at GoPride.com, S. James Long, R.
